Bio and Research Interests
Fernando Marhuenda-Fluixá has been Professor in Didactics and School Organization at University of Valencia (Spain) since 1998 and Full Professor and Chair since 2011.
Lecturer in the bachelor’s degrees of Primary Teachers and Social Education and in the masters of Secondary Education and VET, Pedagogy, and Social Economy.
He has researched and published on policies and practices at the crossroads among social education, adult education and vocational education and transitions between education and work; alternance, apprenticeship, policy reform and transfer of VET and dual VET, second chance education and on-the-job training, particularly for vulnerable population.
Coordinator since 1995 of the interdisciplinary research group Transitions, which was awarded the European Research Award in 2019 by the European Commission and which holds long-standing cooperation agreements with the Spanish Federation of Work Integration Enterprises and the Spanish Association of Second Chance Schools.
Coordinador of 4 national research projects, 2 regional research projects and the Spanish teams of 2 European research projects; supervised 15 dissertations and taken part in several Leonardo and Erasmus+ projects.
Member of the board of VETNET, the network of research on VET within the EERA; member of the VET&Culture network; member of the editorial team of a couple of international journals and reviewer in several education journals. Co-organizer of the Crossing Boundaries in VET in 2018 in Valencia and of the VET&Culture meetings in 2015 and 2024 in Valencia.
